GWINNETT OFFICIALS BREAK GROUND ON DISCOVERY PARK

(Lawrenceville, Ga., June 13, 2024) – Gwinnett County officials on Thursday broke ground on Discovery Park, the newest addition to the County’s award-winning parks system.

When complete, the 45-acre park will feature an inclusive playground suitable for children of all ages and abilities, open greenspaces, a Ride Gwinnett bus stop, shaded picnic pavilions and more.

“Gwinnett’s parks offer more than slides and swings — they create spaces that welcome and embrace everyone,” said Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson. “With Discovery Park’s inclusive playground and diverse amenities, we’re working to ensure that every member of our community can enjoy the great outdoors safely and comfortably.”

Other amenities include an interactive fountain, a multipurpose sports field and two 3-on-3 soccer pitches. A lighted, 12-foot-wide multiuse trail will encircle the entire park.

“I look forward to seeing our residents enjoy leisure, friendly competition, family bonding and much more at Discovery Park,” said District 1 Commissioner Kirkland Carden. “I’m proud that our County continues to prioritize people with an ongoing commitment to quality resources like our parks and trails.”

The $28.5 million project is funded by the County’s SPLOST program. The park is expected to open to the public in 2026.
