UPDATE #2: (Norcross, Ga., July 19, 2024) – The decedent in this case has been identified as Gerardo Reyes-Fentanes, age 38.

UPDATE #1: (Norcross, Ga., July 16, 2024) – Detectives have arrested 20-year-old Ernesto Garcia-Bailon from Norcross, charging him with aggravated assault, felony murder, and malice murder. He is currently being held at the Gwinnett County Jail. Investigators are still working to notify next of kin.

ORIGINAL: (Norcross, Ga., July 15, 2024) – The Gwinnett County Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one male deceased.

On July 14, just after 9:00 p.m., officers assigned to our West Precinct responded to a 911 call of a person shot near the area of 4840 Jimmy Carter Blvd. When officers arrived on the scene, they encountered a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers attempted to render lifesaving first aid, but the victim succumbed to his injuries. Detectives assigned to our Homicide Unit responded to the scene alongside our Crime Scene Unit and the Medical Examiner's office.

Preliminary details indicate that the victim was shot by one suspect near the wooded area behind the location. Detectives are still interviewing possible witnesses and gathering evidence. The Medical Examiner’s office will determine the official manner of death.
