Mail Carrier Arrested for Dumping Mail in Woods and Possession of Drugs

The Gwinnett County Police Department has arrested Marcus Gregory, a USPS carrier, for stealing mail, dumping mail in the woods, and using illegal drugs while delivering the mail.

Officers were initially contacted on July 31, by the United States Postal Service (USPS) Inspector General (O.I.G.) in reference to Gregory.  Their investigators had been watching Gregory after several complaints were filed with USPS for victims not receiving their mail.  On July 31, undercover officers watched Gregory while he was working and witnessed him dump mail in the woods near Williams Farm Road and Highway 316.  After he dumped the mail in the woods, investigators witnessed Gregory use illegal drugs in his vehicle.  Officers pulled Gregory over and placed him under arrest.  During a search of his work vehicle, officers located more illegal drugs and a handgun.  Gregory’s personal vehicle was searched at a local post office and investigators located an additional 215 pieces of stolen mail inside.  On August 3, officers served a search warrant at Gregory’s residence and located more mail.

This was a joint investigation between the Gwinnett County Police Department and the USPS Inspector General’s Office.  Gregory was charged with DUI drugs, possession of a schedule I narcotic, possession of a firearm during a crime, theft of stolen mail, theft by taking, and obstruction.  In total, Gregory has been charged with 51 felony warrants and 9 misdemeanors warrants.
