AFTERNOON FIRE AT LILBURN RECYCLING CENTER

(Lilburn, Ga., Oct. 31, 2023) - At 12:10 p.m., Gwinnett County firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle fire at 105 Arcado Road NW in Lilburn. Shortly after that, multiple reports of a car fire near a business were received, including a general fire alarm transmission from the business. The incident was upgraded to a business fire.

Firefighters arrived at 12:13 p.m. to find a large pile of metal debris on fire at a recycling center. Workers on site stated they were moving a car when it burst into flames. After confirming that there were no injuries on the scene, fire crews deployed a 2 ½ -inch handline to contain the flames. The closest hydrant for water supply was found on the opposite side of Arcado Road. Lilburn Police Department assisted firefighters by closing Arcado Road from Cedar Road NW to Lilburn Industrial Way SW. Gwinnett County Public Schools was notified of the road closure for student drop-off considerations. Crews laid over 1000 feet of five-inch supply line into the business property as additional fire streams were added to the fight. Firefighters brought the fire under control at 1:11 p.m.

There were no injuries reported at this incident. All crews rotated through rehab before returning to service. Firefighters on the scene said that the cause of this fire was accidental.

 

EQUIPMENT AT THE SCENE INCLUDED: 5-Engines, 1-Trucks, 1-Hazardous Materials Team, 1-Water Tender, 1-Med Unit, 2-Command Staff Vehicles, 1-Air and Light, 1-Staff Vehicle, and 1-PIO.
