N. Stanley Gunter, Executive Director of the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia, announces the following:

• With funding from the Georgia Governor's Office of Highway Safety, the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia will present a FREE, six-hour course on investigating and prosecuting DUI cases, hosted by Solicitor-General Rosanna Szabo and the Gwinnett County Solicitor's Office, on Friday, April 20, 2012, from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. This course will be held at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, GJAC Auditorium, 75 Langley Drive, Lawrenceville, Georgia 30046. Students will be comprised of both prosecutors and law enforcement officers.

• According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Center for Statistics and Analysis, in 2009 Georgia had 1,284 total traffic fatalities, 331 of which were alcohol-related. That total represents 26% of the traffic fatalities for the year.

• Successful investigation and prosecution of DUI and vehicular homicide cases requires that all law enforcement and prosecutors work, train, and learn together.

• This FREE program is specifically designed to bring together police officers and prosecutors in this area to learn and discuss the latest strategies and techniques for investigating and prosecuting DUI and related offenses that occur in this jurisdiction.

• This course will be taught by Todd Hayes, Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor, from the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia; and Lieutenant Matt Myers, Drug Recognition Expert/SFST Instructor for the Peachtree City Police Department.
