Empower Gwinnett Government Internship Program
The Empower Gwinnett Government Internship Program, formerly Career Starts Here, is Gwinnett County Government’s summer internship program for youth ages 15 to 21. The four-week paid internship program offers Gwinnett’s young people an opportunity to gain valuable, real-world experience. Interns are provided the opportunity to explore their passions, get hands-on experience, and develop leadership skills through workshops and on-the-job training.
Empower Gwinnett Benefits
Interns will complete the program with an understanding of how their county government functions to provide services and programs to more than 1 million residents. They also receive the following benefits:
- Get paid $15 an hour for two workshops and the four-week internship program

- Learn to write a resume, prepare for an interview, and develop business etiquette
Empower Gwinnett Requirements
The program is led by the Employee Engagement and Training and Development Divisions of Gwinnett Human Resources, and participating County departments.
- While no academic performance or work experience is required, Empower Gwinnett interns must:
- Be a Gwinnett County resident or attend school within Gwinnett County
- Be between the ages of 15 and 21
- If age 15, a work permit is required
- Be available to participate in the entire program, which includes two workshops, four 40-hour work weeks starting in June, and the awards ceremony
- Not be a previous Gwinnett County Government intern
- Be willing to work on any assignment
- Have reliable transportation
