Program Requirements
The program is led by the Employee Engagement and Training and Development Divisions of Gwinnett Human Resources, and supported by other County departments.
- While no academic performance or work experience is required, Empower Gwinnett interns must:
- Be a Gwinnett County resident or attend school within Gwinnett County
- Be between the ages of 15 and 21 (must be age 15 by the first workshop)
- If age 15, a work permit is required
- Be available to participate in the entire program, which includes two workshops, four 40-hour work weeks starting in June, and the awards ceremony
- Not be a previous Empower Gwinnett County Government intern
- Be willing to work on any assignment
- Have reliable transportation

- Adhere to the respective dress code
- Communication should be respectful and appropriate with peers, colleagues, supervisor(s), and residents
- Meet work schedule and job expectations
- Have a positive attitude
- Foster teamwork to build relationships and complete projects
- Display interest and willingness to learn
- Follow the safety guidelines provided on behalf of the County
Program Benefits
Interns will complete the program with an understanding of how their county government functions to provide services and programs to more than 1 million residents. They also receive the following benefits:
- Get paid $15 an hour for two workshops and the four-week internship program

- Workshop - Saturday, May 10 | 8:00am – 5:00pm
- Workshop - Saturday, May 17 | 8:00am – 5:00pm
- Four-week Internship - Monday, June 2 – Friday, June 27 | Hours vary based on assignment
Work with assigned departments gaining real-world experience. - Award Ceremony - Friday, June 27 (Tentative) | 3:30pm – 5:00pm

Application Timeline
The following timeline is subject to change.
- Application period opens – February 10
- Application period closes – March 17
- Application review and selection begins – March 18
- Internship workshops – May 10 and 17
- Internship starts – June 2
- Internship ends – June 27
Selection and Onboarding Process
The selection and onboarding process is as follows:
- Step 1: Human Resources receives the complete application package of eligible participants.
- Step 2: Human Resources will review and select applicants based on the applicant’s interests, career aspirations, and department needs. A waitlist of applicants is also prepared in case of unexpected cancellations. Interns will not be required to interview for positions.
- Step 3: Applicants selected for the program are contacted by phone and/or email. They will be extended a conditional job offer, which means the applicant needs to fulfill additional requests before starting. A background check may need to be completed for certain positions.
- Step 4: Applicants are contacted for a final internship offer. If the offer is declined, an alternate applicant is selected. Applicants who are not selected will be notified by email.
- Step 5: Selected applicants will receive reporting instructions for their internship assignments and the workshops.
