Contractors completed the new State Route 324/Gravel Springs Road interchange on Interstate 85. The Gwinnett Board of Commissioners approved a construction agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation in mid-2019 to fund the construction of the new interchange. Commissioners awarded the construction contract to E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc.

This project includes a new interchange around the existing bridge at State Route 324/Gravel Springs Road at I-85 and four new ramps from Gravel Springs Road with turn lanes and traffic signals, sidewalks, sound barriers, and retaining walls.

This project used $20,000,000 in federal funds to cover the construction contract amount of $19,000,000 in addition to construction engineering, inspection, and testing costs. The County funded engineering costs through the 2014 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, known as SPLOST. Right of way was purchased with federal and state funds.
