Accidental Calls
If you call 9-1-1 by mistake, stay on the line and let the dispatcher know it was an accident. If you don't, the dispatcher will proceed as if your call is an emergency and send a police officer out to check. Accidental calls tie up operators and take away vital resources from callers in need.
Here are a few tips to help prevent accidental calls:
- Lock your phone screen
- Carefully store your cellphone when you’re not using it
- Turn your cellular device on airplane mode when kids are using it
- Disable the Auto-Wake function
- Use a passcode, fingerprint, or facial recognition to unlock your phone
