The Process

The Gwinnett 2040 Unified Plan was prepared in a five-step process.
- In the Research phase, the planning team reviewed data and previous planning efforts to understand the various trends and phenomena in Gwinnett County. This phase officially kicked off with a Public Hearing on December 19, 2017 as part of the Board of Commissioner’s Public Hearing.
- In the Vision phase, the planning team worked with the community to establish a unified vision for the future of the County. This part of the process included a series of Community Open Houses and other community engagement events to solicit feedback.
- In the Develop phase, the planning team prepared the plan and investigated different approaches to achieve the established Vision for the community. This part of the process also included a series of Community Open Houses and other community engagement events.
- In the Document phase, the planning team made final recommendations and prepare the tangible planning document. This part of the process also included a series of Community Open Houses and other community engagement events.
- In the final Adopt phase, the planning team coordinated with regulatory agencies such as the Department of Community Affairs and the Atlanta Regional Commission. This phase kicked off with a Public Hearing on October 23, 2018 as part of the Board of Commissioner’s Public Hearing.
The Unified Plan was adopted by the Board of Commissioners on February 5, 2019.
