GWINNETT COUNTY HONORED NATIONALLY FOR EXCELLENCE IN SUSTAINABILITY PLANNING
(Lawrenceville, Ga., April 9, 2025) – Gwinnett County has received national recognition for its forward-thinking planning and commitment to a high quality of life. The County’s 2045 Unified Plan was named the winner of the Quality of Life Award by the American Planning Association’s Sustainable Communities Division during the 2025 National Planning Conference held in Denver.
The award honors projects that demonstrate outstanding efforts in planning that enhance the well-being of communities. Gwinnett’s 2045 Unified Plan stood out for its comprehensive and inclusive approach to future growth, infrastructure, housing and environmental stewardship—ensuring that residents’ needs are at the heart of the County’s long-term vision.
“This recognition is a testament to the collaborative work of our Planning and Development team, community stakeholders and residents, all who helped shape a plan that reflects Gwinnett’s values,” said Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson. “The plan helps guide Gwinnett’s future while staying true to what makes this community such a great place to call home.”
The APA’s Awards for Excellence in Sustainability are highly competitive and celebrate efforts across the nation that address sustainability through practical and impactful planning. Other award recipients include Contra Costa County, California; the city of Danville, Virginia; and the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission.
The 2045 Unified Plan sets the course for Gwinnett’s future, addressing population growth, climate resilience, housing diversity and mobility while promoting equity and sustainability throughout the County’s 437 square miles.
