GWINNETT BREAKS GROUND ON EXPANDED ACTIVITY BUILDING AT DACULA PARK
(Lawrenceville, Ga., Feb.13, 2025) – Gwinnett County officials broke ground Tuesday on a project to expand the existing 7,440-square-foot activity building at Dacula Park into a two-story, 34,000-square-foot community recreation center with a full-service senior wing.
The expansion will include a new gym featuring an upper-level walking track and places for residents to play basketball, volleyball, badminton and pickleball. The facility will also include an art studio, dance room, game room, classrooms, senior lounge and senior wing, serving kitchen, outdoor patio, covered drop-off area at the roundabout and garden planting beds.
Additional parking with 76 new spaces will connect the building to the other portion of Dacula Park.
Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson emphasized the significant benefits the expansion will bring to residents.
“Here, residents of all ages will find opportunities for recreation, education and socialization,” said Hendrickson. “It will foster connection, combat isolation and help us ensure that every member of our community feels valued and supported.”
District 3 Commissioner Jasper Watkins III said that the facility will enhance quality of life for residents by filling program and facility gaps on the eastern side of the county.
“This expansion is an investment in our people,” said Watkins. “Children will be able to explore their creativity in art and dance studios while seniors enjoy a warm meal in the congregate dining area. This facility will truly be a hub for our community.”
Gwinnett County is using $12.3 million in SPLOST funds and $496,590 from a Community Development Block Grant to fund this project. The designer is LOSE and Associates, and the contractor is Cooper Tacia General Contractors.
