Gwinnett County provides vital support and resources for veterans and their families
(Lawrenceville, Ga., Oct. 28, 2024) – Gwinnett County Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson on Saturday hosted the second annual Stand Down event dedicated to supporting local veterans and their families by connecting them with essential resources and services. The event provided healthcare, housing assistance, job training and legal support, emphasizing Gwinnett County’s dedication to those who have served.
“The Stand Down reflects the very best of Gwinnett County,” said Hendrickson. “It is an honor to stand with our veterans and their families, recognizing their sacrifices and showing our community’s commitment by providing real, tangible support. I am incredibly proud of everyone who came together to make a difference this weekend.”
Retired Lt. Col. and District 3 Commissioner Jasper Watkins III shared his appreciation for the event.
“As a veteran, I understand how important it is to feel supported by your community,” said Watkins. “The Stand Down reaffirms our dedication to making a difference in the lives of veterans and their families, and I’m proud to serve in a county that values our veterans.”
This year’s Stand Down event featured a collection drive from Gwinnett County’s 14 departments. Employees donated nearly 5,240 items, including essentials like socks, beanie caps and toiletries. Remaining items will be used at the County’s Warming Stations and shared through mobile food distributions.
