ONE VICTIM PULLED FROM AN EARLY MORNING APARTMENT FIRE IN LAWRENCEVILLE.

 (Lawrenceville, GA., Mar 14, 2024) Firefighters responded at 6:23 a.m. to reports of an apartment fire at Park on Sweetwater apartments at 3400 Sweetwater Road NW in Lawrenceville. The 911 caller advised that there was a fire in one of the apartments. A Responding Battalion Chief requested additional equipment due to the caller's statement. A Gwinnett County Police officer arrive and noticed smoke billowing from a closed door in an apartment. The officer attempted to enter the apartment, but conditions forced the officer to withdraw.  

Upon arrival, firefighters found a fire in a three-story apartment building. The fire was in a first-floor apartment. Bystanders told firefighters that there was a possible victim still inside. Crews quickly deployed fire hoses and began rescue efforts. Search teams found one unconscious male victim inside the apartment. Firefighters carried the victim to medical crews, who rendered emergency medical care. EMS transported the patient to a local area hospital. With the assistance of Gwinnett County Police, fire crews began evacuating other occupants from the neighboring apartments. Firefighters controlled the fire at 6:38 a.m., limiting fire damage to one unit. No other injuries were reported on the scene. 

Three adults were displaced from their apartments by the early morning fire. Apartment managers are working with the American Red Cross to support those displaced.

Fire Investigators responded to the scene for cause and determination. Investigators determined the fire originated in the terrace apartment unit, and the cause was incendiary. 

EQUIPMENT AT THE SCENE INCLUDED: 4-Engines, 2-Ladder Trucks, 1- Squad, 1- Rescue, 2- Med Units, 3- Command Staff Units, 1- Air and Light Unit, 2- Fire Investigators, and 1- PIO.
