ELEVEN DISPLACED IN AN APARTMENT FIRE DUE TO COOKING
(Peachtree Corners, Ga., Feb. 16, 2025) – Firefighters responded at 9:36 p.m. to an occupant’s report of an apartment fire at the Rosemont Peachtree Corners Apartments at 3769 Elmside Village Lane in Peachtree Corners. The 911 caller advised their apartment was on fire and it is filling with smoke. The occupant advised dispatch they were looking for the fire alarm pull station but couldn’t find it and that the fire started on the stove.
Upon arrival, fire crews found a working fire at a multi-family, two/three split apartment building. While investigating, firefighters found fire involvement on all three floors of the apartment. Firefighters deployed four hose lines and the aerial truck to extinguish the flames. Fire crews completed searches of the entire structure, revealing the units clear of all occupants. There were two apartment units that sustained moderate fire damage and one unit that sustained heavy fire damage. Additionally, there was extension of the fire in the attic. Heavy smoke and water damage to the remaining seven apartment units that were adjacent to the units affected by fire damage. Fire crews extinguished the bulk of the fire in eleven minutes and remained on the scene for overhaul. Medical crews on the scene were utilized for firefighter rehabilitation. No injuries were reported on the scene. Approximately 20 occupants were evacuated by Gwinnett County Police and firefighters on the scene.
The occupant in the home at the time of the incident stated he was cooking when he stepped away into the other room for a few minutes and upon his return there was a smoke-filled kitchen and fire on the stove. Smoke alarms were present and alerted the neighbors of the fire, who were able to evacuate prior to firefighters’ arrival. Eleven adults were displaced due to the fire. The occupants requested assistance from the American Red Cross.
Firefighters on the scene found the fire originated in the kitchen around the stove and deemed accidental.
EQUIPMENT AT THE SCENE INCLUDED: 5-Engines, 2-Ladder Trucks, 1-Squad, 1-Med Unit, 3-Command Staff Units, 1-Air and Light Unit, and 1-PIO.
