SEVEN PEOPLE DISPLACED AFTER CHRISTMAS EVE FIRE BURNS THREE HOMES

(Grayson, GA., December 24, 2024)  At 12:00 p.m., firefighters responded to an occupant's report of a house fire on the 900 block of Swan Ridge Circle in Grayson. The 911 callers advised that the roof was on fire and spreading to nearby homes. The First arriving Gwinnett Police officers updated dispatch to a fully involved house and fire reaching homes on either side.

Upon arrival, fire crews found a fully involved two-story single-family residence on a slab with fire involvement to the bravo and delta exposures. Firefighters deployed one 1 ¾ handline to extinguish the flames to the bravo exposure. At the same time, defensive operations with a ladder truck were used to extinguish the flames on the left exposure with fire through the roof. Multiple 1 ¾ handlines were operated to extinguish all fire to the main structure and interior delta exposure after transitioning to offensive mode. Firefighters conducted searches of the exposures and revealed that the homes were clear of occupants. Firefighters ensured all hidden fire was extinguished in the exposures and cleared of all smoke. Hazardous atmospheric levels were determined to be not present. Once the fire was controlled, the middle structure was found to be a total loss with moderate fire damage to the roof of the right exposure and the left exposure received damage to the exterior wall and attic space. An additional structure on the back side received heat damage to the siding. Additional responding crews were utilized for multiple positive water sources and other supportive roles. Georgia Power arrived and secured power to all three structures.

The home's occupants stated they were in the kitchen when they heard a noise from the roof. The occupant went outside and saw the fire and went inside to notify family members and evacuate. The American Red Cross was requested for six adults and one child displaced from three homes due to the fire. No injuries were reported for the incident.

The origin and cause of the fire is still under investigation.
