GWINNETT COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ROUNDUP

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Dec. 9, 2024) – The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners acted on several initiatives during its Dec. 3 meeting. Here’s a recap of what the board approved:

Resurfacing grant application

If awarded, the board approved applying for and accepting a Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation. This funding will support the resurfacing of various roadways throughout the county, focusing on collectors and arterials. GDOT will contribute a total of $7.8 million with a required County match of $2.3 million. This item is funded 77% by the Georgia Department of Transportation and 23% by the 2023 SPLOST.

Roundabout construction project

Commissioners approved a contract for the construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Lakeview Road, Pharrs Road and Hillside Drive, currently controlled by a three-way stop. The project will include curb and gutter installation, lighting, and drainage improvements. The contract was awarded to CMC, Inc. for $2.6 million and 82% of the project is funded by the 2023 SPLOST.

Civic Center Overlay District amendment

The board adopted an amendment to the Civic Center Overlay District to promote redevelopment around the Gas South District to create a vibrant, walkable community. The update includes:

  • Streamlined permitting process
  • Land use and architectural design standards aligned with the area’s vision
  • Cohesive design guidelines encouraging mixed-use development

Public hearings for the amendment were held on July 23 and Aug. 27.
