(Lawrenceville, Ga., Dec. 12, 2024) – The Board of Commissioners last week hosted state lawmakers representing Gwinnett in its annual legislative delegation breakfast at the Gas South Convention Center. The purpose of the meeting is to give representatives and senators a chance to hear current success and potential challenges the County will face during the upcoming year. 

“Gwinnett County remains dedicated in its commitment to building a community that thrives economically, socially and culturally,” said Gwinnett County Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson. “Our partnership with the delegation is key to navigating challenges and seizing opportunities that benefit all our residents.”

Crime reduction success

Gwinnett County reported a decrease in crime rates, reflecting the success of proactive public safety strategies and strong community partnerships. The County’s law enforcement initiatives, combined with strong community partnerships, have improved safety for residents. Investments in technology, expanded officer training and targeted crime prevention programs were credited for this positive trend.

Sustained economic growth

The County highlighted its robust economic development efforts, which continue to drive job creation and attract businesses to the county. Gwinnett’s strategic investments in infrastructure, such as the redevelopment of key commercial corridors and new business parks, have solidified its reputation as a hub of innovation and growth within the metro Atlanta region.

Human services investments

A centerpiece of the discussion was the recent opening of Gwinnett’s $35 million human services facility in the southern part of the county, a first-of-its-kind project that integrates comprehensive social support with a groundbreaking mental health component. This new facility exemplifies the County’s dedication to addressing the holistic needs of its diverse population and providing resources that enhance the overall well-being of its residents.

Transportation progress

The County reaffirmed its commitment to improving mobility and reducing traffic congestion with updates on several transportation projects. Among them, the planned I-985 exit at Thompson Mill Road promises to enhance access and ease commuter traffic in key areas. These infrastructure upgrades are part of Gwinnett’s broader efforts to support the region’s growing population and economy.
