Here are some highlights from last week's Gwinnett Board of Commissioners meetings: 

State prisoners

Gwinnett signed a new contract with the state, agreeing to house 222 state inmates at the Gwinnett Correctional Complex for a year starting on Friday, July 1.

Fire & Emergency Services vehicles

Four new aerial ladder trucks funded by the 2017 SPLOST program will cost about $6 million. Commissioners also approved remounting existing ambulance bodies on new chassis to extend their useful life and ensure reliability. Total cost of the remounting is $1.8 million.

Entrepreneur Center contract

Commissioners also renewed a $295,000 management agreement with Georgia Gwinnett College to staff and operate the Gwinnett Entrepreneur Center, funded by the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The move includes a new staff position to expand services.

Water reclamation plant upgrade

Inflow screening at the F. Wayne Hill Water Resources Center will be improved under a $3.8 million contract with Reeves Young, LLC.

Bridge repairs in Duluth

The Pine Needle Drive bridge over Rogers Creek in Duluth will be rehabilitated at a cost of $120,000 to be shared equally by the County and the city of Duluth using funds from the 2017 SPLOST program.

Human services strategic plan  

Health Management Associates, Inc. will consult the County on a comprehensive human service needs assessment and develop a strategic plan. The $370,964 cost is funded 94 percent by the American Rescue Plan Act and six percent by the Older Americans Act.
