Work Alternative Program
Rather than serving full-time incarceration or participating in the Work Release Program, eligible offenders can fulfill their sentences by engaging in community service-type work. Under this program, participants report to the Comprehensive Correctional Complex in the morning and return home at the end of the workday. They contribute their labor to various government and nonprofit agencies, such as packing meals-on-wheels for seniors, assisting at Animal Control by washing dishes or doing laundry, and maintaining cleanliness by removing trash from roadsides, parks, school stadiums, and park/ride lots. To participate, participants must pay a one-time administrative charge and daily fees to offset the program's costs.
Program Operation / Orientation
Work Alternative Program orientation is offered every Thursday at 12:00pm (noon).
Work is available every day of the week from 7:30am to 3:30pm. Participants must provide their own transportation to and from the WAP office located at 750 Hi Hope Road, Lawrenceville, GA 30043. Please dress appropriately for the nature of the work and the prevailing weather conditions.
Attire requirements:
- Full-length pants only (No shorts)
- Closed-toed shoes only (No sandals or flip-flops/slides)
- Shirts must have sleeves (No tank tops, tube tops, or bare midriff tops)
All participants are liable to be searched while in custody. Individuals reporting for the Work Alternative Program (WAP) in an intoxicated state or under the influence of drugs or alcohol will undergo drug/alcohol testing and may face disciplinary action or criminal charges. Anyone found in possession of contraband will be subject to disciplinary action and/or criminal charges. Contraband is defined as weapons, alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, and non-prescription drugs. You're allowed to bring your lunch, a hat/cap, sunglasses, jacket/coat, rain gear, and change for a locker ($0.50).
