Gas South District
Known as the “Gwinnett Civic and Cultural Center” when it opened in 1992, the name was changed to “Gwinnett Center” after the Tommy Hughes Ballroom. The Arena at Gwinnett Center officially opened in 2002 and 2003. The Center was one of the projects built with funds from a four-year sales tax approved by voters in 1988. The campus continued expansion with the addition of a parking deck in 2007. The momentum continued with a naming rights agreement with Infinite Energy for the Gwinnett Center in 2015 and the creation of a revised master plan for the campus in 2016.
Gas South then acquired Infinite Energy. On May 25, 2021, the name was officially changed to Gas South District and is now home to the Gas South Arena, Gas South Convention Center, and Gas South Theater. Phase I is complete and phase II of the project is expected to be completed in December 2022
Since its opening, Gas South District has hosted top performers, prestigious collegiate sporting events, significant conventions and trade shows, and a myriad of community gatherings and events. The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners has worked collaboratively with the Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau, Inc. (“GCVB”), also known as “Explore Gwinnett,” for the operation of the Gas South District as well as promotion of tourism within the County.
With on-site parking available in a beautifully landscaped environment, the Gas South District offers four major areas:
Gas South Arena (formerly Infinite Energy Arena), a 13,000-seat, state-of-the-art facility, is home to the Atlanta Gladiators, an ECHL hockey team, and the Georgia Swarm, an NLL lacrosse team. Perfect for events from Broadway shows and concerts to sports events, the Gas South Arena can handle it all.
Gas South Convention Center offers a 90,000-square-foot exhibit hall and 23 versatile rooms. Varying in size from 1,000 square feet up to 1,700 square feet, the spaces include built-in screens, projectors, and audio systems to accommodate a variety of event needs.
Gas South Theatre (formerly Infinite Energy Theater) features a 702-seat theatre with excellent visibility and acoustics from anywhere in the house.
The "five-star" Grand Ballroom is the crowning touch for the Convention Center. The 21,600-square-foot Grand Ballroom also meets the demand for additional exhibit and breakout space.
