Police Make Arrests in “Sweet 16” Shooting

Investigators with the Gwinnett County Police Department arrested four individuals in relation to the "Sweet 16" party and shooting that took place on February 19, 2011.

The investigation revealed that 17 year old Kempton Greaves of Stone Mountain was identified as being a part of a dispute with another individual at the party. Mr. Greaves retrieved a firearm and fired it two times into the air. The firearm was taken from Mr. Greaves by 21 year old Luis Borrero of Snellville. Mr. Borrero then fired several rounds into the house striking and injuring 5 juveniles.

Mr. Greaves was charged with Discharging a Firearm near a Roadway. Mr. Borrero was charged with 5 counts of Aggravated Assault, 3 counts of Cruelty to Children, 1 count of Burglary and 1 count of Discharging a Firearm while Intoxicated.

During the course of this investigation, investigators developed probable cause to charge 28 year old Kenny Madlock and 35 year old Xenia Christopher with Maintaining a Disorderly House. Both reside at the incident location. 

Aggravated Assault

(Saturday, February 19, 2011 @approximately 11:00 PM) The Gwinnett County Police Department responded to a report of a shooting located at 4384 Loch Ness Lane, Snellville.  This home is located within unincorporated Gwinnett County in an area associated with Snellville.  Upon arrival, it was determined that 5 people, all juveniles between the ages of 15-17 had been injured.  Four had been shot and one had been grazed by shrapnel from the shooting.  Only one of the injuries was deemed serious and none were deemed life threatening.  All have been treated and released at Gwinnett Medical Center at this time.    

An unknown individual began shooting randomly into the residence where a party was being held with approximately 50-60 people in attendance.  Police set up a perimeter and searched the area utilizing K-9 units and air units.  After a thourough search of the area no suspect was located. 

Investigators responded to the scene and began following up with victims and witnesses.  Descriptions of the suspect were so varied that investigators have not yet been able to focus in on any one suspect.  No one on scene was able to provide any vehicle description or names of possible suspects.  The one most consistent description was of a light skinned black male, between the ages of 18-25.  The scene was processed by CSI units.

No arrest has been made at this time and investigators are following up on leads attempting to identify a suspect.  There may be a connection to gang activity and drug activity at this time but no solid connections can yet be made.
