Update #3, 04/17/2017: The mother/victim has been identified as 30-year old Natalie Nation. The biological father for the child has not received notification through the Gwinnett County Police Department nor the Medical Examiner’s Office.  The child’s name is being withheld until notification has been made. 

Update #2, 04/17/2017: The mother has died as a result of her injuries.  GCPD investigators are still awaiting next-of-kin notification.  (Cpl. Michele Pihera)

Update #1, 04/17/2017: (Lawrenceville, Georgia) Gwinnett County Police have charged 32 year old Brandon Williams of Buford with one count of Felony Murder and two counts of Aggravated Assault. He has been transported to the Gwinnett County Detention Center where he will remain without bond. The mother of the child is still in critical condition at Gwinnett Medical Center. The name of the child is being withheld until next of kin notification is made. Detectives still do not know what the motive for the attack was.(Cpl. Deon Washington)

Original, 04/17/2017: (Buford, Georgia) Gwinnett County Police are investigating the homicide of a 2 year old child and the assault of a woman at 2751 Tybee Drive in Buford. At approximately 11 p.m. last night police received a 911 call from the homeowner. The caller reported that his son had choked a mother and child that live at the house and walked a short distance up the street to a gas station. Both victims were transported to the hospital. The child has since died and the mother is in critical condition. The incident happened while the homeowner was outside working on a car in the driveway. The suspect was confronted at the gas station by police and arrested without incident.

According to the homeowner, the woman was renting a room at the home and the child was her son. There are no family ties between the suspect and the victims. Detectives are exploring a motive for the homicide. The name of the victim is being withheld pending next of kin notification. Charges for the suspect are forthcoming. Fortunately, this was an isolated incident and police are not searching for any additional suspects.(Cpl. Deon Washington)
