Home Invasion Robbery Suspects Captured

(Lawrenceville, Georgia)  On Monday, May 16, at about 2:45pm, three black males robbed a victim (age 26, male) at gunpoint at 1649 Cannonball Court in unincorporated Lawrenceville.  The suspects made the victim pull everything from his pockets and stole his cell phone.

The suspects then walked to 1658 Cannonball Court.  One suspect banged on the door to the home.  The victim (age 39, female) said that a suspect put a gun to her head as she opened the door.  The suspect ordered her to lay on the sofa in the family room and told her to keep her head down.  Two other suspects entered the home.

Her daughter (age 15, female) entered the room to see what the noise was.  The mother looked up at her daughter.  The first suspect fired a shot near the mother’s head to get her to put her head back down.  The suspect ordered the teen to look around the house for money.  As the teen was looking around for money, one of the suspects touched her shoulder and made sexual remarks at her.

Before leaving the home, one suspect fired a shot in the direction of the teen.  The round nearly hit the teen in the face.  The suspects ran outside the home.  The mother said that she then heard multiple gunshots outside.

A neighbor (age 48, male) heard the initial gunshots from 1658 Cannonball Court.  He grabbed his gun and came outside and saw three males running out of his neighbor’s home.  At least one was holding a gun.  An armed suspect pointed his gun at the neighbor and the two began shooting at one another.  The neighbor was shot twice during the gun fight, and the suspect was shot at least once.

The three suspects fled in a gold passenger car driven by a woman.  Several residents in the neighborhood called 911 reporting the gunshots.

Officers quickly descended upon the area and found the neighbor suffering from gunshot wounds.  Several witnesses eventually came forward.   The license plate for the gold passenger car was given to the officers.

A short time later, the gold passenger car pulled into the parking lot of Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville.  The driver fled after dropping off the suspect who had been shot.  The suspect was later identified as Israel Bland (age 23, Lawrenceville).

The injuries to both the neighbor and the suspect were non life-threatening.

On Tuesday, May 17, detectives assigned to the Gang Unit obtained information to believe that the gold passenger car was at a home in Winder.  Prior to obtaining a search warrant for the Winder home, the suspects were seen getting into another vehicle and driving off.  Winder Police were notified of the siutation and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.

One of the suspects, Jameel Hazel (age 25, Winder) fled from the passenger seat of the vehicle and was chased by Winder officers.  After Hazel was placed in handcuffs, officers located marijuana and a loaded firearm on him.

The Gang Unit detectives ultimately identified the following suspects:

  • Taneah Jamyce Hazel (age 22, Winder) – female driver
  • Jameel Terry Hazel (age 25, Winder)
  • Ronnie Joshua Amos (age 20, Norcross)
  • Israel Bland (age 23, Lawrenceville) – at hospital

Winder PD made several charges against both Hazels and Amos.  They are currently incarcerated in the Barrow County Jail.  Upon their release, the suspects will face charges in Gwinnett County.  Some of the criminal charges may include:

  • Armed Robbery
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Home Invasion 1st Degree
  • Terroristic Threats
  • Sexual Battery
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
  • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Participating in Criminal Gang Activity

Bland is currently at the hospital recovering from his injuries.  Upon his release, he will be transported to the Gwinnett County Jail to face charges.

Thanks to the quick investigation by the Gang Unit and swift apprehension by the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office and Winder Police Department, these dangerous criminals have been apprehended.  Their victims can sleep a little better at night knowing that these suspects are behind bars.
