Mass Casualty Incident
The department’s Mass Casualty Incident Team (MCI) responds to a wide range of incidents including those that have a high potential for overwhelming a typical response assignment. The team has additional training in multi-patient care and management, mass triage capabilities, and Includes advanced training in infectious disease related emergencies. The team also includes a regional special response unit (SRU) known as MAB-2. This special response unit allows for multiple non-critical patients to be transported, monitored, and cared for simultaneously enroute to a definitive care facility.
Swift Water Rescue
The Swift Water Rescue Team (SRT) coordinates surface water-related emergencies. Rescue techniques vary according to the body of water and available access. Swift Water Rescue Teams will perform in-water rescues using ropes, rescue boards and various rescue watercraft. Controlling watercraft in fast-moving water is extremely dangerous and requires highly skilled personnel with many hours of training. As with all specialty rescue teams, other resources such as aviation units can be called upon for assistance. Time is of the essence in swift water rescue incidents as Hypothermia can rapidly immobilize even the strongest swimmer.
Technical Rescue
The department’s Technical Rescue Team (TRT) is a highly specialized team which performs a myriad of functions. These functions include confined space rescue, industrial machinery entrapment, structural collapse, trench rescue, rope rescue, and many other scenarios which could require specialized skills obtained through advanced training.
