STOLEN EXCAVATOR LEADS TO CHOP SHOP
(Norcross, Ga., November 27, 2024) – Gwinnett County Police Motor Vehicle Theft detectives arrest Larry Dobbs (46, Norcross) for operating a chop shop.
On November 26, uniform officers from the West precinct were dispatched to a stolen vehicle call. The owner reported his mini excavator had been stolen and he had a gps tracker on it. Officers responded to 846 Rockbridge Way in Norcross, where the excavator was visible from the street.
Detectives from the Motor Vehicle Theft Unit were called to the scene and obtained a search warrant for the premises. Over $100,000 in property was recovered from the residence. They recovered two excavators, a stolen suv, three vehicles with altered VINs, two stolen motorcycles, a trailer, Fentanyl and Oxycodone and a stolen handgun.
Dobbs was charged with operating a Chop Shop, Theft by Taking, Felony Theft by Receiving three times, Misdemeanor Theft by Receiving, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Controlled Substance two times, Felony Altered VIN three time, and Possession of Tools for the Commission of a Crime. Dobbs was taken to the Gwinnett County Jail.
