(UPDATE:  The suspect has been identified as Vernell Cheneau Jr. (age 37, Dacula).  He has been booked into the Gwinnett County Jail and charged with Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony. 

Investigators are still attempting to make contact with the next-of-kin for the victim. 

Dacula, Ga., April 24, 2021) – The Gwinnett County Police Department is at the scene of a domestic dispute that resulted in the death of one of the family members.

Shortly after 7:30pm, officers assigned to the East Precinct were dispatched to a “person shot” call on Overlook Hill Pass in unincorporated Dacula.  When officers arrived, they located an adult male with at least one gunshot wound.  The victim was shot inside the garage of the home and later pronounced deceased by GCFD.

Officers learned that an adult male suspect fled the scene shortly after the shooting.  East Precinct officers saw the suspect on Auburn Road near Hog Mountain Church Road and conducted a felony stop on his vehicle.  The suspect was taken into custody. 

Investigators believe that the shooting resulted as a dispute between the victim and the suspect.  There were several other family members inside the home at the time of the crime.

Members of the Gwinnett County Police Department Criminal Investigations Section along with the Crime Scene Unit are at the home gathering evidence and processing the scene.
