Gwinnett County 911 Communications Receives APCO Training Program Certification
The Gwinnett County Police Department’s 911 Communications Division was recognized during the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials’ (APCO) 90th Annual Conference and Expo for receiving their Agency Training Program Certification designation.
APCO International is the world’s largest organization of public safety communications professionals with over 40,000 members that manage, operate, build, and support public safety communications. APCO’s Agency Training Program Certification provides a way for public safety agencies to certify that their training programs meet APCO American National Standards (ANS). Meeting these standards is critical as initial and ongoing training is vital for public safety telecommunicators providing essential services in an ever-expanding and rapidly changing public safety environment.
The 911 Communications Division submitted their training curriculum to APCO International for their Agency Training Program Certification. The agency’s curriculum, training materials, and supporting documentation were thoroughly reviewed to ensure that it prepares telecommunicators with the required knowledge and skills to excel in this challenging field. After the review was completed, the Gwinnett County Police Department’s 911 Communications Division was awarded the certification. This certification requires renewal every three years to ensure that the training program adapts to the ever-changing needs of public safety communications.
The police department was recognized at APCO’s 90th Annual Conference & Expo in Orlando, Florica on August 4-7.
