AFTERNOON APARTMENT FIRE IN NORCROSS DISPLACES MULTIPLE FAMILIES

(Norcross, Ga., Oct. 23, 2024) - At 3:44 p.m., firefighters responded to a report of an apartment fire at The Elliot Apartments located at 4047 Northridge Way NW in Norcross. The complainant told 911 call takers that an apartment was on fire in the complex. The call taker reported hearing the sound of activated smoke alarms in the background.

Firefighters arrived at 3:49 p.m. and reported heavy fire blowing out the windows and attic of a three-story apartment building. Upon further investigation, fire crews observed an adult male attempting to break a window on the front side of the building. The bystander informed firefighters that a child was trapped inside. Rescue teams rapidly entered the apartment and searched for victims. Search teams later determined that the apartment was vacant when firefighters arrived. Fire crews deployed multiple fire hoses to control the flames. Firefighters achieved knockdown of the flames at 4:19 p.m. Utility companies responded to the scene to secure utilities. 

No injuries were reported in this incident. The residents confirmed that the apartment building was vacant at the time of the fire. Apartment managers began working with the American Red Cross to initiate emergency assistance for the twenty tenants displaced by the fire. Firefighters rotated through rehab before returning to service. Fire investigators said the cause of this fire was undetermined.

 EQUIPMENT AT THE SCENE INCLUDED: 4-Engines, 2-Ladder Trucks, 1-Squad, 1-Rescue, 2-Med Units, 2- Command Staff Vehicles, 1-Air & Light, 1-Fire Investigator, and 1-PIO.
