COURT OF APPEALS OF GEORGIA TO HOLD ORAL ARGUMENTS IN LAWRENCEVILLE
(Lawrenceville, Ga., Feb. 14) – By invitation of Chief Judge Melodie Snell Conner, on behalf of the Superior Court Judges of Gwinnett, the Court of Appeals of Georgia, Second Division, consisting of Presiding Judge Gary B. Andrews, Judge Christopher J. McFadden and Judge William M. Ray will travel to hold a special session of oral arguments at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center. This will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, beginning at 10 a.m. The public is welcome to attend.

The Court of Appeals of Georgia handles one of the largest caseloads of any appellate court in the United States. The caseload of this 12-judge court averages approximately 300 cases per judge, per year. The Court of Appeals grants oral argument in approximately 50 percent of the cases where oral argument is requested.
Presiding Judge Andrews was elected to the Georgia Court of Appeals in November 1990 and took office on Jan. 1, 1991. He was re-elected in 1996, 2002 and 2008. Presiding Judge Andrews served as Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals from 1997-1998.
Judge McFadden graduated from Oglethorpe University in 1980 and from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1985. He opened his own law office in 1988 and remained a sole practitioner until he joined the Court of Appeals. Judge McFadden was elected in November 2010 for a term that began on Jan. 1, 2011.
Upon graduating from law school in 1990, Judge Ray moved to Lawrenceville, Ga. to begin the practice of law with the firm then known as Andersen, Davidson & Tate. Judge Ray ran for the State Senate in 1996 for the 48th District, comprised of parts of Gwinnett, Forsyth, and Fulton counties. On Jan. 14, 2002, Judge Ray took the oath of office as a Superior Court Judge for the Gwinnett Judicial Circuit, having been appointed by then-Gov. Roy Barnes to fill an unexpired term. He was re-elected in 2002, 2006 and 2010. On July 30, 2012, Gov. Nathan Deal administered the oath of office to Judge Ray to serve as the 76th Judge of the Court of Appeals of Georgia.
