Woman Tries to Rob a Taxi Driver with a Handgun, Victim Fights Back

(Norcross, Georgia)  A fight call in Norcross wasn’t what it first appeared to be.  Officers assigned to the West Precinct were dispatched to the Las Palmas Apartment complex at 1 Seasons Parkway on Tuesday, June 21 around 8am.  The dispatcher told the responding officers that there were two people fighting near the dumpsters.  One man was standing over another person issuing blows to the head.

When the officer pulled up, he saw a taxi cab parked near the dumpster.  The taxi driver, Alan Hernandez (age 32, Doraville), was assaulting Desiree Lindsey (age 22, Norcross) on the ground.

Hernandez was holding a walkie-talkie and part of a handgun.  The officer ordered him away from Desiree, and he complied.  He placed the handgun on the ground and stepped away.  The officer saw a large amount of blood on Desiree’s head.  He immediately called for an ambulance and treated her injuries with some gauze.

Desiree said, “This isn’t what you think it is.”  She told the officer that she owed someone some money so she tried to commit a robbery to pay that person off.  She decided to get into a taxi and rob the driver.  She said that she hit the driver in the head with her gun.  The driver got out of the car, took the gun from her, and began beating her in the head with it.

Hernandez told the officer that he thought Desiree was going to kill him, so he grabbed the gun and fought back.  He used his walkie-talkie to call for help.  As he was hitting her with her gun, the gun broke into two pieces.  He had a laceration to the back of his head and cuts on his shoulders, legs, and arms.  His shirt was ripped on the side and he was covered in blood.  He was eventually checked out by the ambulance personnel.

The officer recovered 9 unspent rounds.

Desiree was transported to the Gwinnett Medical Center to be treated for her injuries.  After she was treated, Desiree was placed under arrest for Aggravated Assault and Criminal Attempt to Commit Armed Robbery.  She also had outstanding warrants through the GCSO and Duluth PD.  She is currently in custody at the Gwinnett County Jail.

This situation could have had a much worse outcome.  The victim felt his life was in danger, so he fought back.  Hernandez assaulted Desiree in order to protect himself.  He has not been charged with any crimes.
