Motor Vehicle Fatality
(Thursday, June 24th, 2010 @ approximately 11:45 PM) Investigators with the Gwinnett County Police Accident Investigations Unit responded to the scene of a fatal accident involving a single vehicle. The incident occurred on Doc Hughes Road, near its intersection with Beyers landing Drive. This is a portion of roadway within an unincorporated Gwinnett County associated with Buford.
Preliminary investigation has indicated that a 2007 Chevrolet pick-up truck was traveling Eastbound upon Doc Hughes Road when the driver lost control over the vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway, striking a fence and a guardrail before dropping off a nearby embankment. The vehicle came to a rest at the bottom of the embankment, in a small stream. At the time of this accident, the truck was occupied by three persons. The driver and one passenger were not wearing seatbelts. All three occupants of the vehicle were pronounced deceased at the scene of this accident. A specific cause of death for each victim will be determined by the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner. No other persons were in the Chevrolet or injured at the time of this incident.
The deceased are not being identified pending notification of all next-of-kin. The accident continues to be investigated by members of the Gwinnett County Police Department Accident Investigation Unit. It appears that alcohol and speed may be factors in this event. It does not appear that any other vehicles contributed to this accident.
The officers of the Gwinnett County Police Department are committed to reducing alcohol related accidents and deaths. Throughout the summer they will be participating in numerous operations and patrols, saturating various roadways within Gwinnett County with police officers targeting impaired driving.

The deceased have been identified as: 36 year-old Terry Hammock of Grayson - the vehicles driver, 27 year-old William Lewis of Buford and 31 year-old Chad Litton of Lawrenceville. The investigation remains ongoing at this time.
