Frequently Asked Questions

How is microtransit different from regular Ride Gwinnett local bus service?
Microtransit serves designated zones within Gwinnett County with on-demand, flexible shared rides. This service is available to anyone wanting to take a local trip to get to work, go shopping, go to an appointment, connect to other transit options, and more. On-demand trips mean you can access the service when you need it instead of having to plan your trip around a bus route schedule.

Microtransit also uses a shuttle or van that makes short trips within the service area. Trips can be booked in real time using the Ride Gwinnett app or by calling dispatch at 770.246.4770 and selecting option 3. Customers wanting to complete any trip outside the zone must plan a separate bus trip using our local fixed route options.

What are the hours of operation for Ride Gwinnett microtransit?
Microtransit operates Monday through Saturday from 6:00am to 8:00pm. Please note that holidays may affect Ride Gwinnett service hours. Any adjustments to our hours of operation will be posted on the Ride Gwinnett website, our X account, and the Ride Gwinnett app.

Microtransit trips must finish by 8:00pm. Trips that would end after 8:00pm cannot be booked.

How do I know when a driver will pick me up?
Ride bookings specify a 10-minute time window for pick up. We advise that you are ready to board or take your trip at the beginning of your pick-up time window. You will receive an updated estimated time of arrival as your ride approaches and a notification when your ride has reached the pick-up location.

Updates are sent via SMS and the Ride Gwinnett app. You also have the option to use the app to track your vehicle’s location in real time as it comes to pick you up.

How long will the driver wait for me?
As a courtesy to your co-riders, the driver may only wait up to two minutes for you to reach the pick-up location. To stay on schedule, the vehicle will depart if you do not show up within the two-minute waiting period.

Can I change my pick-up location or destination?
No, but you can cancel your ride and book a new ride with your new pick-up or drop-off location.

How do I cancel or change a scheduled ride?
Use the Ride Gwinnett app or call 770.246.4770 and select option 3. If you have prepaid for your ride with a credit card, a credit will be applied to your account.

What if I cancel or do not show up for my ride?
If you are not able to take the ride for any reason, we advise you to cancel as soon as possible. There are penalties for canceling or not showing a high volume of rides in a short period of time.

How much does it cost for a ride?
The cost for a one-way trip is $3.00. Customers can link their credit or debit card in the Ride Gwinnett app, scan their Breeze Card, or pay with cash. The driver cannot make change, so using exact change is advised.

I am eligible for reduced fare on Ride Gwinnett buses. How much do I pay for Ride Gwinnett microtransit?
Ride Gwinnett microtransit customers pay $3.00 per ride.

Will I be able to rate my trip?
Yes, you can rate your ride and provide feedback via the app following the completion of your ride.

How do I book in advance?
Currently, we are offering only same-day advance bookings. Bookings can be made on-demand or in advance for the same day.

What if I don’t have a smartphone?
Riders can also book their ride through the web version of the app or by calling Ride Gwinnett dispatch at 770.246.4770 and selecting option 3. The agent will give you a vehicle arrival time and confirm your pick-up and drop-off locations.

What if I am traveling with a service animal or pet?
Service animals are always welcome as required by law. Therapy animals and pets are not allowed on Ride Gwinnett microtransit.

What is the Ride Gwinnett microtransit policy for car seats, strollers, and luggage?
Children must be removed from strollers, and strollers must be folded and stored away from the aisle while the bus is moving.

All large items like carts, strollers, and luggage must not block aisles, doorways, or prevent other passengers from using seats or wheelchair areas. Folding carts should be folded and kept under control while on board.

Items like shopping carts, non-folding strollers, bicycles, and wheeled baskets are not considered mobility devices and may not be allowed on Ride Gwinnett buses. However, walkers, canes, crutches, and similar aids are recognized as mobility devices. While some people use carts as mobility aids, Ride Gwinnett does not support their use for this purpose on buses.

Is this service meant to replace bus service?
Ride Gwinnett microtransit enhances the existing bus system, addressing equity, reliability, and efficiency improvements that are being proposed as part of Gwinnett County’s Comprehensive Transportation Plan.

Who will be my driver? Do all microtransit drivers have to have a background check?
All Ride Gwinnett microtransit drivers are Ride Gwinnett employees who have been screened and trained for safety, including incident prevention. As with all Ride Gwinnett transit operators, each microtransit driver must pass a background check and complete appropriate training.

How will I recognize my Ride Gwinnett microtransit vehicle?
Ride Gwinnett microtransit vehicles are white shuttles or vans with red, blue, and yellow elements and feature the Ride Gwinnett logo on both sides. In addition, the app and SMS notifications will provide the vehicle number you are expecting as your ride approaches.

What if I have comments, concerns, or questions about microtransit?
You can send any comments, concerns, or questions in the Ride Gwinnett app. You can also call 770.246.4770 and select option 3 or email Transit@GwinnettCounty.com.
