About the Police Department
The Gwinnett County Police Department is an agency with a long history of excellence, integrity, and fairness. The department enjoys a strong relationship with the diverse community it serves and continues to build that reputation by constantly engaging and interacting with our residents and visitors. Because of our reputation, high standards, and commitment to excellence, we only recruit and hire the best and most qualified applicants.
The Gwinnett County Police Department is the second largest police agency in Georgia with an authorized strength of 936 sworn Officers and 132 civilian E-911 Communications Officers, all supported by another190 civilian employees. The department has been CALEA accredited since 1993 and holds the rare distinction of Tri-Arc certification through CALEA. Gwinnett County is located in the northeast part of metro Atlanta, and our police department provides full law enforcement services to a population of more than 840,844 residents covering an area of 437 square miles.
The Police Headquarters is located in Lawrenceville, Georgia, with six precincts spread across the county. Because of the rapid growth of the county, plans are currently being prepared for the construction of a new headquarters building beginning in 2025. The Department also has a $34.4 million state of the art training facility that consists of a driving track, 25 and 100-yard indoor firing range, a live-fire shoot house, and an academic building with 10 classrooms, library, weight room, defensive tactics room, multi-purpose training room, and firearms simulator room. The E-911 call center is located next to headquarters and is staffed with 132 communications officers.
