Southwest Gwinnett Safe Access Study
The Southwest Gwinnett Safe Access Study, funded by the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Livable Centers Initiative program, aims to enhance safety and connectivity for those who walk, bike, and ride transit in the study area. It will also identify opportunities to revive two underdeveloped nodes to create more vibrant, walkable environments.
Study Area
The Southwest Gwinnett Safe Access Study generally includes the area bound by Interstate 85 on the west, Old Norcross Tucker Road to the south, Lawrenceville Highway to the east and Beaver Ruin Road to the north.
The study will also focus on the revitalization of two nodes in the Mountain Park area:
- Rockbridge Node, located at Five Forks-Trickum Road and Rockbridge Road
- Killian Hill Node, located at Five Forks-Trickum Road and Killian Hill Road
What is a node?
Major Tasks
- Assessing existing conditions and reviewing previous and ongoing planning efforts
- Creating a program of improvements, which may include the addition or enhancement of sidewalks, safer roadway crossings, public art installations, placemaking elements, green infrastructure, and similar improvements to increase access
- Developing policies and strategies related to land use and zoning, business retention, and economic development and identifying redevelopment opportunities
Project Schedule
The Southwest Gwinnett Safe Access Study will gather the public and key stakeholders to shape the plans for the Mountain Park area.
Public engagement is essential to potential enhancements in Southwest Gwinnett. A series of feedback opportunities will include design workshops, surveys, and more!
