Fire Self-Inspection Process
Thank you for your interest in the community risk reduction efforts of Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services. In addition to our mission of Saving Lives and Protecting Property, the Fire Department believes in reducing the number of fires and other emergency incidents through aggressive public education and safety awareness campaigns.
The Fire Self-Inspection Process is a Prevention and Enforcement program intended to engage business owners and managers in the inspection of their own facilities, and verification of the code required inspection, testing, and maintenance, (ITM) of fire protection systems by qualified third party service providers. The Fire Marshal’s Office (Prevention and Enforcement) will initiate the process, provide education, and review documents submitted by business owners and service providers, to verify compliance to the extent possible without typical on-site inspections.
A central component of the process is the Fire Self-Inspection Checklist available at the link below. The Fire Self Inspection Checklist (FSIC) includes many of the most common fire prevention and life safety issues found in commercial occupancies. The intended use is for facility staff to inspect their own business and initiate corrective action as needed. The FSIC is not intended to be an all-inclusive list, but rather highlights many of the common and most significant fire code provisions commercial occupancies may be required to meet.
Community Risk Reduction staff are available to help you understand the provisions of the FSIC, or answer questions about identified conditions. Phone or on-site consultations are available upon request and may be customized to meet the needs of the facility. Pre-inspection assistance may be as simple as answering a specific fire-related question, or as complex as hands-on or online training for administrators, or staff. We look forward to continuing our cooperative efforts to ensure our community’s businesses are safe from fire and related emergencies.
