2020 Comprehensive Master Plan
The 2020 Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan is an update in the Parks and Recreation Master Planning process. As the County changes, new plans are developed to update the roadmap for the provision and quality of parks, facilities, and services to keep in step with the needs of our vibrantly connected community.
The Comprehensive Master Plan completed in 2020 serves as an update to the previous Master Plans conducted in 2004 and 1996 as well as the Capital Improvement Plans developed in 2007, 2013, 2017. This most recent Master Plan also compliments the Gwinnett Countywide Trails Master Plan completed in 2018.
The key findings of the 2020 Comprehensive Master Plan:
- There is a strong appreciation for the “Gwinnett Standard”
- We need to continue to position parks as essential services
- We need to enhance marketing and communications
- We need to enhance convenience and accessibility
- We need to protect, provide access to, and sensitively program natural areas
- We need to prioritize facility/amenity and program/activity investments
The County has succeeded in responding proactively to address its parks and recreation needs and planning for the future in a forward-thinking, fiscally responsible manner. Long-term planning will build upon this momentum and maintain the focus of the future and implementing the vision.
