Stroll along the banks of the Alcovy River and discover a local gem listed on the National Register of Historic Places: the restored gristmill at Freeman’s Mill Park. One of the last operating gristmills in Gwinnett, it provided wheat flour, cornmeal, and feed for residents and animals for over a century. Brothers John Griffin and Levi J. Loveless built the mill between 1868 and 1879; subsequent owners were W. Scott Freeman and his son, Winfield, and Newt Pharr. After purchasing the property, the county restored the mill and surrounding 12 acres for educational and recreational use. View 10 exhibits, including an operational demonstration mill, during public tours. This picture-perfect spot, complete with waterfall, is also available for rental.
