Commission Meetings
The Board of Commissioners’ public meetings are advertised and posted with the link on the Board of Commissioners – Public Meetings page. Read more about the different types of meetings below.
Work and Business Session Meetings
The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Work and Business Session meetings are generally held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. The Work Session is held at 10:00am and the Business Session at 2:00pm. During the Work Session each item is read and moved to either the consent or discussion agenda for the Business Session meeting. Consent items are voted on as a group at the Business Session, and discussion items and old items of business are voted on individually. At the end of the Business Session meeting, time is allowed for comments from the audience.
Public Hearings
The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Public Hearings are generally held the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm, but public hearings may be held at other times. Public hearings are held primarily to consider land-use issues (rezonings, special use permits, change in conditions, etc.). At the end of the Public Hearing meeting, time is allowed for comments from the audience.
Special Called Meetings
The Board of Commissioners may call special meetings as needed to conduct business of the county. Notice of the meeting will be posted in accordance with the Georgia Open Meetings Act.
Executive Session
Executive Sessions of the Board of Commissioners may be held for the purposes of conducting business to discuss matters properly excluded from the Georgia Open Meetings Act.
Informal Briefings and Special Events
Informal briefings and special events, such as ground breakings, ribbon cuttings, etc., are generally held on Board of Commissioners’ meeting days. Informal briefings are open meetings which are held as issues or events dictate, giving the Board an opportunity to review and discuss items which impact the County or may need official activity at a later date. No voting takes place in the Informal Briefings. Most special events, such as ribbon cuttings, are also open to the public. The time and place of Informal Briefings and special events will be posted in accordance with the Georgia Open Meetings Act.
Invocation
The Board of Commissioners invites a County chaplain to share an invocation before the first meeting on the first, third, and fourth Tuesdays. The invocation takes place in a conference room used for informal discussions and is open to the public through a WebEx connection. The Invocation is typically held at 9:45am on the first and third Tuesdays and at 5:15pm on the fourth Tuesdays.

Meetings open to the public are held at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, located at 75 Langley Drive, Lawrenceville, Georgia, unless posted otherwise. All meetings of the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners shall be held in accordance with the Georgia Open Meetings Act.
