Traffic Engineering
Traffic Engineering responsibilities include ensuring a safe and efficient transportation system by maintaining the countywide traffic signal system, monitoring existing travel conditions, maintaining traffic volume and traffic accident data bases and providing analyses, reports and recommendations for corrective measures. The division is also responsible for developing and managing the residential speed control and street light programs. The division maintains over 700 signals, over 200 flashers, over 225 miles of fiber optic communications cable and more than 250 CCTV cameras. The division also oversees the operation of the Traffic Control Center and the GC Smart Commute website.
