On July 31, 2012, residents across the 10-county Atlanta region including Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, and Rockdale counties had the opportunity to vote on a referendum that would have funded $8.5 billion in transportation improvements through a regional 1 percent sales tax. However, this referendum, established through the Transportation Investment Act, did not pass.
